Nicole C. Allen of Rochester was given a prison term of one and a third to four years for criminally negligent homicide and three misdemeanor child-endangerment charges, The Rochester (N.Y.) Democrat reported Tuesday.

She was found guilty on Feb. 8 in connection with the September 2008 fire that burned Kamari Mona Allen-Holmes, 3; Dayveion Kani Allen, 20 months; and Natalya Cenai Allen, 2 months, the newspaper said.

Kamari died in December 2008 and the other two children have required extensive skin grafts. They are living in a foster home with a retired nurse.

Investigators said the fire was caused by a stove's gas burner left on under a cooking pot.

In passing sentence, State Supreme Court Justice Francis A. Affronti admonished Allen for putting her own interests above those of her children.

"Everything you did that evening, Ms. Allen, you did for yourself," Affronti said. "You cared only about satisfying your own personal needs. You … wanted a beer. Not diapers, but beer."
