Formal murder charges were expected to be filed today against Gregoria A. Perez, a Kankakee resident who was arrested Saturday for allegedly killing her 1-year-old daughter.

Kankakee County State's Attorney Jamie Boyd said this morning he discussed the case Sunday with Kankakee Police Chief Mike Kinkade.

"I have not yet received the report from the police department, but I expect it will arrive this morning," Boyd said at 8:15 a.m. today.

Perez, 23, allegedly called 911 Friday to report that her daughter, Alma Perez, was not breathing, according to a statement released by the Kankakee Police Department. Kankakee Fire Department personnel arrived at the scene at 545 S. Chicago Ave. a short time later, and immediately transported the child to Provena St. Mary's Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
