A 22-year-old South Side woman was charged Monday with murder in connection with the death of her 21-month-old son, who died Sunday after being battered.

Doulesha Wyatt, of the 100 block of East 49th Street, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Jaymeon Wyatt, according to police. She will appear in bond court on Tuesday.

The toddler was taken to the University of Chicago Comer Children's Hospital on Saturday after suffering numerous injuries, police said. An investigation revealed the child had been battered. 

Jaymeon was pronounced dead at 1:05 p.m. Sunday after suffering a head injury at his home, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

An autopsy on Monday found Jaymeon suffered craniocerebral injuries, blunt head trauma and child abuse and his death was ruled a homicide, according to the medical examiner’s office.

The baby’s death is thought to be a result of child abuse, police said.

The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is investigating an allegation of abuse, spokesman Kendall Marlowe said.

The department has had prior contact with the family and has taken custody of two other children in the home, Marlowe said.

Wentworth Area detectives are investigating.
